Finished….
For those who have followed the progress and thought we were totally bonkers…this is for you…..the long awaited finish of the Joiners Shop has arrived!
A once dilapidated building bought in 2009, full of rubbish and with a collapsed roof, has now been transformed into a light and airy cottage.
In its heady days it was the Joiners and Wheelwrights workshop to Ridley Hall…hard to believe it is the same place.
Even the photographs we took back then look grim…
After planning approval, we set to work with a new roof, new windows and doors, lime pointed walls and rebuilt the courtyard wall.
We also divided the Bastle courtyard from the Joiners Shop with a post and rail fence and gate to separate the two buildings, but still have the flexibility of combining the two for larger parties of up to 8 people.
The internal fitting out seemed to take forever….new floor, stud walls, masses and masses of insulation, first fix, second fix, plasterboard, plastering, painting, joinery…the list went on and so did the money!
Fast forward July 2017
Finally we are now up and running and ready for our guests.
The new driveway has been levelled to provide ample parking for two cars and a private South East facing seating area with table, chairs and BBQ.
It is quite a little sun trap overlooking the woods and Beltingham burn.

The inside if I am allowed to say…is a triumph.
What appears to be a small cottage on the outside, is quite “Tardis like” with a luxury bathroom and power shower, 2 bedrooms, sitting room and steps down to the kitchen.
Vaulted ceilings and beams throughout give the place character with a light and airy feel.
The welcome pack, like the Bastle is always generous and….. there is more in the fridge too.
