Historic Holiday Accommodation

An 18th century stone built, single storey, detached building in the pretty village of Beltingham.
This 2 bedroom cottage was originally the Joiners / Wheelwrights Shop for Ridley Hall, home to the Bowes Lyon family.
In the 19th century all the cottages in the village housed staff for the family and the grand Georgian Beltingham House was the dower house. The village churchyard at St Cuthbert’s Church has a private Bowes Lyon cemetery, a commemorative tree planted by the late Queen’s Mother and ancient Yew trees which are believed to pre date the church with pagan origins.
The Joiners Shop is tucked neatly behind a courtyard wall accessed via a gravel lane with its own ample, on site parking and private outside space
Sleeps 4.
Dog friendly.
Close to Hadrian’s Wall.

The Joiners Shop

Built in the early to mid 18th century, The Joiner’s Shop was originally one of four cottages to the rear of the old Bastle house in Beltingham village and served as the wheelwright and joiner’s workshop for the local estate of Ridley Hall, Northumberland….owned by the Bowes Lyon family in the 19th century.

The courtyard wall is all that remains of the other buildings, now long since demolished.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US….

Third visit, same fantastic experience. As a family we love the location, the property and the care and attention to detail from the property owner. So well equipped-very comfortable beds and sofas – no detail left to chance, even some plasters for my daughter who had a blister. Highly recommend.

What a wonderful place, great location close to and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Cottage really well kitted out and check in was really flexible and easy. Thank you!

We had such a wonderful time here, I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. All the furnishings and fittings are top quality and really tasteful, everything you can think of is provided, plus a lovely welcome basket of extras! We were lucky with the weather so spent hours sitting out on the sheltered patio. The cottage is so peaceful with its quiet location but it’s a pleasant easy walk down to shop, cafe and pub at Bardon Mill. Would love to return one day!

Picture-postcard enchanting. Everything you could hope for in an English cottage – heaps of charm, incredibly cozy, sparkling clean and a tranquil & quiet spot. We had such a lovely time – wish we were staying longer!
